Patent Foramen Ovale Closure Without Echocardiography

چکیده
nterventional cardiologists have firmly established their ole in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary atheroscleosis. Assessment of hemodynamics has also been a longtanding role for the catheterization laboratory. However, he invasive cardiologist is now becoming involved in the reatment of structural heart disease. Various and increasngly complex procedures are being performed through a atheter-based approach, such as septal ablation for hyperrophic cardiomyopathy, balloon valvotomy, prosthetic leak epair, and percutaneous valve replacement. The past decade lso has witnessed the emergence of percutaneous closure of atent foramen ovale (PFO) for secondary prevention of troke. This procedure has been rapidly adopted into clinical ractice with conservative estimates of 11,000 patients aving received the Amplatzer PFO Occluder (AGA Medcal Corporation, Golden Valley, Minnesota) since its inroduction worldwide in May 2000 (1).

Heart Carcinoid Disease with Patent Foramen Ovale Treated by Mini Sternotomy
This case report was an attempt to present the importance of diagnostic echocardiography and closure of a patent foramen ovale in carcinoid heart disease. Herein, we present a case of a 48-year-old woman with a carcinoid metastasis presenting with tricuspid regurgitation, pulmonic stenosis, patent foramen ovale, and borderline left ventricular ejection fraction on an echocardiogram. Surgical in...
متن کاملIschemic Stroke in Patients with Percutaneous Patent Foramen Ovale Closure
Background: The prevalence of patent foramen ovale is approximately 50% in patients who have suffered a cryptogenic stroke. The recurrence of ischemic stroke after percutaneous patent foramen ovale closure is approximately 1% per year. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of recurrent ischemic stroke in our population undergoing percutaneous patent foramen ovale closu...
متن کاملUse of the transseptal puncture in transcatheter closure of long tunnel-type patent foramen ovale.
Two patients with long tunnel-type patent foramen ovale presented for elective transcatheter closure following transient ischaemic attack and stroke. Right to left shunting was confirmed on transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography. A new technique that used a transseptal procedure was devised to enable closure of the tunnel-type patent foramen ovale using the CardioSEAL transseptal o...
متن کاملEustachian valve interfering with transcatheter closure of patent foramen ovale.
A prominent Eustachian valve (EV) is a common finding in patients with a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Its presence might compromise transcatheter closure of the PFO.
متن کاملSelecting the optimal closure device in patients with atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovaleD
Patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects are common cardiac defects that can be routinely closed with transcatheter devices, rather than more invasive open surgical techniques. There is good evidence supporting both surgical and transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects, but there remains controversy regarding some of the currently applied indications for patent foramen ovale closure...
متن کاملEffect of catheter-based patent foramen ovale closure on the occurrence of arterial bubbles in scuba divers
METHODS: A total of 47 divers (age 35.4 ± 8.6 years, 81% men) with a PFO (PFO group) or treated with a catheter-based PFO closure (closure group) were enrolled in this case-controlled observational trial. All divers were examined after a simulated dive in a hyperbaric chamber: 34 divers (19 in the PFO group, 15 in the closure group) performed a dive to 18 m for 80 min, and 13 divers (8 in the P...
